Therapeutic Massage

Massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissue (primarily muscle and connective tissue) of the body. Massage provides relief and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain.  It strives to achieve balance and health in the body by affecting the body’s systems. Massage can significantly accelerate the innate restorative process by having a positive affect on the circulatory and lymphatic systems.  Massage can be a part of physical therapy or practiced on its own.

Many therapists today work collaboratively with other health care practitioners and are also involved in education and research. Massage therapists do not diagnose medical conditions or manipulate the spine. Massage is an adjunct to and does not replace medical attention or psychological counseling. Medical attention should be sought for any painful condition.

Reflexology

Reflexology was used as long as 5000 years ago in India and China and is in common use today in Asia and Europe. The gentle manipulation of the feet or hands restores balance to the organ systems, glands, the musculoskeletal areas and lymph pathways of the body. Circulation and the elimination of toxins are improved. There is also great easing of tension and anxiety.

Body Wrap

A very natural tool to detoxify the body, cleanse and hydrate the skin, leaving you rejuvenated and your skin feeling silky smooth. It works in a similar manner to application of a poultice: linens are soaked in a herbal or aromatherapy solution, which is tailored to your individual body’s needs, and then wrapped around your bare skin. You are then swaddled in a comfortable cocoon of blankets and allowed to relax while the herbal preparations do their work detoxifying you through your largest organ – your skin. The toxins are drawn through the pores, the soft tissue is compressed and the skin regains it’s elasticity. It is a helpful tool in reducing cellulite, however, consultation on utilizing a variety of modalities may be advised. This treatment includes aromatherapy moisturizing after the wrap.

Salt Scrub Massages

As the name implies, this type of massage utilizes high mineral salts (such as Dead Sea Salts) to exfoliate dry skin, and reduce toxic build up in areas of high lymph congestion. They are another helpful tool in reducing cellulite in the body. The treatment is finished off with application of a moisturizing aromatherapy blend in a nourishing seaweed gel base that will leave you feeling invigorated with baby soft skin.

Aromatherapy

An ancient art and science which uses concentrated plant extracts known as essential oils and hydrosols to assist the body in balancing many of it’s functions, and especially well known in recent years for it’s ability to relax or refresh, depending on the oils selected. Heather is trained in the European Medical Model of Aromatherapy which is utilized in many European countries’ medical systems. After an extensive health questionnaire is completed, she will custom blend a combination specific to balancing your body’s needs. It can be applied during a body wrap, salt scrub or lymphatic drainage massage, or, sent home with you to be inhaled or applied topically for specific problem areas. Heather specializes in plants grown and distilled in Alberta and British Columbia. Cost of this will be included if utilized with other treatments or, if only Aromatherapy Consultation and blend is sought, it will be $50.00 including first blend.

Wholistic Foot Care

This luscious treatment uses only plant-based, natural products that contain no synthetics or petrochemicals. Aromatherapy & Reflexology are employed. The focus is on cleaning & nurturing your feet into a blissful state, totally forgetting their normal stresses & strains. The effect is that of having feet that feel lighter.

Traditional Thai Massage TTM

Traditional Thai Massage, TTM, is a unique form of bodywork that incorporates Hatha Yoga, Acupressure and Reflexology with origins dating back about 2500 years.

Thai Massage is traditionally practiced on a futon mat on the floor while comfortably clothed. The Practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, feet and knees to press and stretch your body. No oils are used nor are there long continuous strokes common in many other forms of massage.

During the massage the entire body’s energy lines (Sen) are worked with pressure from every direction. Then facilitated stretching begins. Gentle pressure and compression are used to stimulate internal organs, relax tense muscles and calm the nervous system. Passive stretching adjusts the skeletal structure, increases flexibility and restores movement. The receiver may be asked to be in any of the 4 different positions (supine, side lying, prone and sitting).

A feeling of calmness and balance is restored in the body.
