Dr. David Vojtisek, B.Sc, N.D.

Dr. David Vojtisek has been practicing at Solis Wellness as a Naturopathic Doctor since the beginning of January 2008.

His Journey to becoming a Naturopathic Doctor began during his childhood. Ever since an early age he was very interested in plants, animals and the workings of Nature in general.

He was born and raised in Eastern Europe where the use of herbs, hydrotherapy and other natural healing methods were always very much a part of the cultural paradigm and so when it came time for the actual study of the Naturopathic modalities, the transition felt quite natural to him.

Dr. Vojtisek, along with his parents, moved to Edmonton from the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia at the time) in early 1980 and have lived in the Capilano area since then. He attended Bonnie Doon High School, followed by 4 years at the University of Alberta to earn his Bachelor of Biological Sciences Degree. After that he took some time off from studies to travel through much of Europe, Ireland, North Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

In 2003 he began attending the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario, one of only six such accredited colleges in North America. There he received his training as a Naturopathic Doctor, which consists of the same curriculum as the training of conventional Medical Doctors with the addition of the six Naturopathic modalities. The program is 4 years in length with the last year consisting of a practicum/internship attending patients as an Intern at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic under the supervision of licensed Naturopathic Doctors serving as Clinic Supervisors.

Dr. Vojtisek is very proud and happy to have the privilege of serving members in the community of East-Central edmonton, which he has called home for over 25 years and looks forward to assisting all of you on your personal path to Health and Wellness!

Dr. Aki Kawai, B.Pharm., N.D.

Dr. Aki Kawai is a native of Tokyo, Japan. She earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at the Meiji Pharmaceutical University in Tokyo in 2001. Even before completing her studies to become a pharmacist, Dr. Kawai discovered that natural modalities of healing were her true passion. This was partly prompted by an introductory Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine course, which was part of her undergraduate education as well as a personal experience with an ankle injury treated and healed by natural healing methods.

She completed her studies and began to practice as a licensed Pharmacist but even from the very beginning felt there had to be a more complete model of health and well-being than the one she had been taught to date. Her search eventually led her to seek knowledge and education in Naturopathic Medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario, which is one of only six such accredited institutions in North America.

In her practice Dr. Kawai uses all 6 of the healing madalities which currently comprise Naturopathic Medicine. These are Botanical Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Homeopathy, Clinical Nutrition, Physical Medicine, and Counseling and Lifestyle Modification. These modalities lend themselves well to treating most chronic degeneratives as well as many acute diseases and conditions.

Dr. Kawai believes strongly in the healing power of nature and the innate ability of the human organism to heal itself. She sees herself as a facilitator to empower patients with good knowledge and skills, so that they can make healthy choices and maintain long term good health.
