Sandra Parr

The Yoga certification through the YAA must be renewed every three years, so Sandra’s studies began in 1997 with the Himalayan  style (with Margo Balog as senior teacher), and progressed through Iyengar style, therapeutic yoga with David McAmmond, Sandra Sammartino’s yoga, various anatomy classes and much more.  The last few years have settled into Desikachar’s style of yoga.  He was the first to call his style Vinyasa.  Many prominent teachers have studied with Desikachar such as Rosemary Antze and Gary Kraftsow.  Many other people began using the sequences in different ways and called their creations Vinyasa as well. Lately, Desikachar prefers not to refer to his as Vinyasa anymore.

Every teacher is a product of their teachers.  The Vinyasa style that Sandra teaches tends to be very introspective for improving self awareness (anatomy), very gentle and yet still strong and stretching within your body’s capability,   The Vinyasa style is very helpful in providing some of the repetition that is required to unlearn old body habits and relearn new body movement.  Each repetition is used to deepen the level of awareness of what your body is capable of doing in that moment.

This style tends to agree with people who like to change how they move their body, or who are finished recovering from an illness/surgery/birth and want to regain some improved health.
